Job Overview

The Explosives Officer will partner closely with the Explosives Coordinator to ensure full compliance with explosives legislation, internal policies, and operational procedures. The role includes responsibility for safe explosives management and may involve appointment as Explosives Magazine Master on surface and underground operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with explosives legislation, policies, and procedures

  • Submit statutory and operational reports to the Explosives Coordinator

  • Conduct audits, investigations, and incident reviews

  • Oversee safe transport, storage, handling, and destruction of explosives

  • Manage daily destruction of old and surplus explosives

  • Conduct inspections and searches for unsecured explosives

  • Investigate explosives-related incidents and accidents

  • Provide training and coaching to explosives handlers and receivers

  • Conduct compliance inspections, task observations, and documentation checks

  • Maintain accurate explosives records and logbooks


Qualifications

Education

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in explosives application, management, and control

  • Proven exposure to risk assessment techniques

Skills and Certifications

  • Magazine Master Certificate (or obtain within 3 months)

  • Blasting Ticket / Rock Breaker’s Certificate or CIE Inspector of Explosives Appointment

  • Valid Code B driver’s license

  • Strong legislative, compliance, and safety knowledge

Advantageous

  • Previous CIE experience and training

  • Certificate or Diploma in Explosives Management or Blasting Technology
