Field Service Engineer – Mechanical Trainee at NOV (Entry-Level Position)

Are you ready to kickstart your engineering career with a global leader in oil and gas equipment? NOV (National Oilwell Varco) is offering an exciting Trainee Field Service Engineer opportunity based in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

This role is designed for enthusiastic individuals eager to develop their skills and gain hands-on experience in maintaining and servicing world-class rig equipment. As part of NOV’s Rig Aftermarket (RA) team, you’ll undergo structured training, close mentorship, and continuous professional development to become a fully proficient Field Service Engineer.

What You’ll Do:

• Perform servicing, repairs, overhauls, and inspections of NOV rig equipment (both offshore and onshore).

• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues, working with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.

• Prepare detailed reports (daily service reports, parts lists, surveys) and redline engineering schematics.

• Collaborate with engineers, management, and safety personnel to resolve technical problems and improve equipment performance.

• Travel globally on an ad-hoc basis to meet business and customer needs.

What We’re Looking For:

• Qualifications: Higher National Certificate (HNC) or equivalent in Mechanical, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field.

• Experience: Prior exposure to installation, commissioning, and maintenance of heavy machinery is advantageous but not essential for trainees.

• Technical Skills:

  • Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering schematics.

  • Computer literacy (MS Office: Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems is a plus.

• Personal Attributes:

  • Eager to learn and adapt.

  • Comfortable with global travel and offshore assignments.

  • Strong problem-solving and teamwork abilities.
