🎯 Role Overview

The Hotel Financial Controller will be responsible for leading the finance function, ensuring all financial processes are accurate, compliant, and aligned to hospitality best practices. You will support the Executive Team, enhance operational performance, and mentor the finance team to drive excellence.


πŸ”§ Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including reconciliations and collections.

  • Manage daily cash book entries and ensure accurate bank statement balancing.

  • Record, classify, and reconcile all financial transactions in accordance with IFRS for SMEs.

  • Maintain full balance sheet integrity, ensuring proper valuation of assets and liabilities.

  • Prepare, review, and distribute monthly management accounts with supporting schedules.

  • Analyse hotel performance, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support operational improvements.

  • Ensure compliance with financial legislation and maintain strong internal controls.

  • Enhance financial systems and workflows to improve operational efficiency.

  • Prepare and submit VAT, tax, and statutory returns accurately and on time.

  • Assist with budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reporting.

  • Collaborate with auditors, department heads, and external partners.

  • Lead, mentor, and support the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence.

πŸ“š Education & Qualifications

  • Matric / Grade 12.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting (or equivalent).

  • Minimum 3 years financial experience in a 4- or 5-star hotel.

πŸ’» Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with Opera PMS (non-negotiable).

  • Knowledge of Micros, revenue systems, and accounting platforms.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Exceptional accuracy, numeric discipline, and data integrity.
