We are seeking a high-impact Financial Controller to join our Africa leadership team, located in Sandton, Johannesburg, reporting directly to the Finance Director for Africa.


🎯 Role Purpose

The Financial Controller – Africa will lead financial performance management, tax governance, and strategic finance initiatives across Yara’s diverse operations in Africa. This role requires a commercially minded leader with strong regional experience, excellent analytical capabilities, and a strategic mindset to support growth, profitability, and compliance.


🛠️ Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Financial Leadership

    • Lead and oversee financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting aligned with regional strategic goals.

    • Provide in-depth performance analysis and commercial insight to support earnings improvement and return on invested capital (ROIC).

    • Drive transparency through accurate reporting, variance analysis, and proactive performance monitoring.

  • Business Partnering & Commercial Support

    • Partner with country managers and senior leaders to monitor P&L, cash flow, working capital, and balance sheet health.

    • Develop and evaluate business cases, scenarios, and modelling for growth and efficiency initiatives.

    • Lead the presentation of consolidated regional results to global and senior stakeholders.

  • Tax Compliance & Governance

    • Act as the primary tax contact for Africa, overseeing compliance, managing audits, and mitigating tax risks in coordination with local advisors and global tax teams.

  • Risk, Controls & Compliance

    • Strengthen and standardize financial controls and compliance across African markets.

    • Ensure adherence to IFRS, internal policies, and local statutory requirements.

    • Coordinate audits and statutory reporting across jurisdictions.

  • Process Optimization & Team Development

    • Champion the adoption of standard finance tools, KPIs, and efficient reporting processes.

    • Mentor and develop junior finance professionals to cultivate a high-performance, learning-oriented culture.

    • Collaborate cross-functionally with YAA and global finance teams to optimize financial operations.

  • Strategic Projects & M&A

    • Support strategic transformation initiatives and participate in M&A transactions, including due diligence and integration.


🧠 Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in regional/multinational finance roles.

  • Proven background in business controlling, financial planning, and commercial partnering.

  • Strong experience in tax compliance, audits, and cross-border tax governance.

  • Solid knowledge of IFRS, reporting systems (SAP, SUN, Power BI), and ERP tools.

  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred:

  • CA(SA), CIMA, or equivalent certification.

  • Experience in agriculture, commodities, or industrial sectors.

  • Exposure to multiple African markets and knowledge of local tax laws.

  • Background in inventory and manufacturing accounting is advantageous.
