Introduction

The City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality invites suitably qualified and motivated applicants to apply for the TLMA-F-2026 Fitting and Turning Apprenticeship Programme, based at the Tshwane Leadership and Management Academy (TLMA) in Pretoria West.

This programme forms part of the municipality’s artisan development strategy, aimed at equipping young South Africans with critical mechanical and manufacturing skills required in today’s competitive technical environment.


About the Fitting and Turning Apprenticeship

The Learning and Development Division of the City of Tshwane is an accredited training provider offering structured apprenticeship programmes that combine classroom-based theory with practical, work-integrated learning.

The Fitting and Turning Apprenticeship prepares learners to become qualified artisans capable of manufacturing, assembling, maintaining, and repairing mechanical components and machinery in industrial and municipal settings.


Key Responsibilities and Learning Areas

  • Participate in formal theoretical training and practical workshop instruction

  • Perform fitting, machining, and turning operations using hand and machine tools

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications

  • Operate lathes, milling machines, and precision measuring instruments

  • Assemble, maintain, and repair mechanical systems and components

  • Apply occupational health and safety regulations at all times

  • Complete logbooks, trade tests, and competency assessments

  • Demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and commitment throughout the programme


Minimum Requirements

  • Technical Matric, NCV Level 4, or N2 Certificate

  • Mathematics and Physical Science passed

  • Relevant trade theory related to Fitting and Turning

  • Strong interest in becoming a qualified artisan

  • Willingness to commit fully to the apprenticeship duration

  • High levels of dedication, enthusiasm, and mechanical aptitude


Important Eligibility Notes

  • Applicants who already possess a trade certificate in any related trade will not be considered

  • Submission of fraudulent information or documents will result in disqualification

  • Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged individuals and women

Stipend Information

  • Apprentices will receive a fixed monthly stipend of R2 792.44

  • The stipend is intended to support learners during training and does not constitute permanent employment
