Job Overview

The Food Service Assistant / Cleaner plays an essential role in supporting kitchen operations and maintaining hygiene standards. This position involves assisting chefs with food preparation, serving meals, and ensuring that all kitchen and dining areas remain clean, safe, and organised.

Key Responsibilities

🍽️ Food Preparation & Service

Assist cooks and chefs with meal preparation, including salads and desserts
Serve food on the serving line efficiently and professionally
Ensure food presentation meets company standards

🧼 Cleaning & Hygiene

Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, canteen, and dining areas
Ensure serving areas are clean, stocked, and organised at all times
Follow hygiene and food safety standards

📦 Stock & Food Handling

Store and record leftover food appropriately
Assist in maintaining stock levels on the serving line
Handle food items in accordance with safety regulations

👥 General Support

Carry out reasonable instructions from management
Assist with additional duties as required within operations
Support team members to ensure smooth daily service delivery

Qualifications

🎓 Education

Grade 12 / National Certificate

💼 Experience

1–2 years’ experience in a similar role (food service or cleaning)
Culinary qualification (advantageous but not required)

🛠️ Skills

Basic knowledge of food preparation and hygiene standards
Good communication and teamwork skills
Strong attention to cleanliness and detail
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Time management and reliability
