About the Role
The Functional HR Manager serves as a dedicated HR business partner to the assigned Business Unit (BU), acting as the interface between the BU and KPMG’s Centres of Excellence. This role involves delivering HR and L&D services, aligning people strategy with business goals, and supporting BU leaders in workforce planning, talent management, and organisational effectiveness. You will ensure that HR programmes are implemented effectively and that the overall people experience supports high performance, compliance, and transformation objectives.
Key Responsibilities
HR Strategy & Business Partnership

Maintain in-depth knowledge of firm-wide HR strategy, business priorities, and relevant industry trends.

Provide input into the Business Unit HR strategy and translate it into actionable HR solutions.

Integrate HR strategy within BU operations to enable leadership to meet strategic objectives.

Lead and deliver priority HR projects aligned with strategic goals.
HR Service Delivery & Talent Management

Provide day-to-day PPC services: talent acquisition; performance development; learning & development; mobility; succession planning; organisational effectiveness; reward & recognition.

Act as custodian of HR & L&D policies and procedures relevant to the Business Unit.

Manage employee relations, ensuring compliance with legal and internal standards.

Oversee performance management systems to drive high performance.

Forecast and plan talent pipeline in line with business strategy.

Manage BU HR budgeting and financial aspects of people programmes.
People Experience, Engagement & Culture

Foster a positive and inclusive workplace environment.

Support and drive the firm’s transformation and inclusion strategy.

Analyse staff data and proactively address colleague needs and wellbeing.

Registration with relevant professional bodies (e.g. SABPP, Institute of People Development, Association of Change Management Practitioners, FASSET).
Minimum Requirements
-
Relevant degree or diploma in Human Resource Management, Industrial Psychology, Social Sciences or a related discipline (or currently studying toward one).

Minimum 5 years’ generalist HR experience.
-
At least 2 years in a management or supervisory HR role.

Strong knowledge of HR methodologies, tools, and the full HR value chain.

Understanding of labour regulations, skills development frameworks, and B-BBEE compliance.

Awareness of current HR trends and ability to apply modern HR models and practices.
