🧾 Job Overview

The General Worker role is responsible for providing essential general labour support across production and operational areas. This includes cleaning, waste handling, housekeeping, and assisting with various operational tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of the facility. The role plays a critical part in maintaining hygiene, safety, and food quality standards within a fast-paced FMCG environment.

📋 Key Responsibilities

General Duties

• Follow daily cleaning schedules for all designated areas as allocated by the Supervisor

• Maintain high housekeeping standards within the working environment

• Collect dirty overalls from change rooms and deliver them to the laundry

• Dispose of rejected soft drinks in the designated dumping bay

• Ensure all activities are conducted within demarcated housekeeping zones (green, red, and yellow areas)

• Perform general labour duties as required to support operations

• Ensure actions do not endanger employees, equipment, or company property

Health, Safety, Food & Environmental Compliance

• Adhere to all Food Safety Policies, PRPs, and GMP requirements at all times

• Comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures

• Ensure visitors and contractors are signed in, escorted, wear PPE, and comply with hygiene rules

• Maintain high levels of personal hygiene in line with the Code of Practice

• Follow handwashing and sanitation procedures before handling products

• Remain vigilant against food defense and food fraud risks

• Identify and report health, safety, or environmental hazards immediately

• Attend mandatory training and apply learnings related to Quality, Food Safety, and Health & Safety

General Compliance

• Maintain expected performance standards

• Enforce compliance with legislative and statutory requirements

• Support continuous improvement initiatives

• Assist with additional duties outside the job description when required by the business

🎓 Requirements

Education

• Grade 12 / Matric / NQF Level 4 (Essential)

Experience

• Up to 3 years’ operational experience within an FMCG environment

Skills and Competencies

• Basic verbal communication skills

• Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures

• Strong attention to detail

• Problem identification and escalation skills

• Ability to work collaboratively within a team

• Accountability and reliability

• Understanding of hygiene, safety, and food quality standards
