Santam, a leading short-term insurance company in South Africa, is seeking a Technical Support: GIS & Risk Analysis professional to join their Underwriting Risk Management team at the Santam Head Office in Bellville, Western Cape. As a GIS & Risk Analysis Support Specialist, you’ll assist the technical specialists in data collection, analysis, geocoding, and spatial analysis using ESRI’s cloud solution, ArcGIS Online. Your role will also involve supporting Santam’s FloodQueries and MyLocation mailboxes, ensuring the efficient resolution of customer queries and contributing to ongoing risk management strategies. 🧑💻 Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management Support: Assist in the management of various project deliverables such as geocoding and thatch accumulation.
- GIS & Data Management: Handle the daily GIS tasks, including data collection, cleaning, and analysis of spatial and non-spatial data.
- ArcGIS Online Support: Provide administrative and data management support to the ArcGIS Online Viewer application, ensuring seamless operations.
- Geocoding: Perform the geocoding and reverse geocoding of Santam policy data for accurate location mapping.
- Report Writing: Document and present findings through detailed reports and analysis results to support decision-making processes.
- Training & Support: Conduct training sessions for internal teams on topics like geocoding and ArcGIS Viewers.
- Email Query Management: Manage the FloodQueries and MyLocation mailboxes, responding to flood review and geocoding inquiries on designated days.
🎓 Qualifications & Experience:

Minimum Requirements:
- BSc in Geomatics, Geoinformatics, or a relevant specialist degree.
- 10-15 years of experience as a GIS Technologist/Professional in a similar role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Experience:
- An understanding of insurance and related risks (advantageous).
🛠️ Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in ESRI Software: Experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related GIS software.
- Geospatial Data Analysis: Expertise in GIS data capture, preparation, and spatial analytics.
- Python Scripting: Experience with Python scripting for automation and customization (preferred).
- Risk Awareness: Basic understanding of disaster risk such as floods and fires.
- Geocoding: Strong geocoding capabilities and data management experience.
- Analytical & Reporting Skills: Ability to conduct in-depth research, data analysis, and prepare detailed reports.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication, presentation, and networking skills.
- Problem-Solving & Attention to Detail: Strong problem-solving ability with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
