Key Performance Areas:
Research Project Leadership:
- Initiate, conduct, coordinate, and manage research projects in alignment with standards, client needs, and budget constraints.
- Successfully propose and complete research programs outlined in the business plan, aligning with the ARC’s Corporate Program and Strategy.
- Contribute to the ARC’s reputation through high-quality research findings adhering to scientific standards.
Technology Transfer and Training:
- Facilitate well-customized technology transfer and training programs.
- Ensure effective dissemination of technology through various channels like products, services, literature, information days, courses, and events tailored to client needs.
Budget Management:
- Manage allocated budgets efficiently and proactively.
- Execute financial administrative activities in compliance with the ARC’s prescribed financial procedures and policies.
Research Opportunities and Funding:
- Actively seek new research opportunities.
- Develop and write compelling research proposals for funding.
Results Dissemination:
- Share research results through scientific peer-reviewed publications, congress presentations, popular articles, and client reports.
- Engage in mentorship of postgraduate students.
Requirements:
- PhD in Plant Pathology.
- At least 5 years post-PhD relevant experience in conventional plant breeding/plant pathology of pome, stone, and Vitis crops.
- Profound knowledge of modern and conventional plant breeding techniques, coupled with an understanding of current biotic and abiotic stress factors within the deciduous fruit industry.
- Proven ability to generate external income for programs and projects.
- Demonstrated student-mentoring skills (at least at MSc level).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and data analysis tools relevant to plant breeding.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license: Code B or EB.
