π― Key Purpose of the Role
The Group Accountant plays a pivotal role in the consolidation of monthly and annual financial reporting for the broader Discovery Group. This includes IFRS compliance, audit interaction, report preparation, and supporting financial insights required by Exco, the Board, and multiple business units.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified CA(SA) with up to three years of post-articles experience who thrives in a fast-paced, highly analytical environment.
π Key Areas of Responsibility
π Financial Reporting & Consolidations

Prepare monthly consolidated management accounts, including:
β Group Income Statement
β Statement of Financial Position
β Statement of OCI
β Statement of Changes in Equity
β Cash Flow Statement
β Segmental reporting -
Review and validate foreign subsidiary translations and consolidation journals to ensure IFRS accuracy.

Support the compilation of IFRS-compliant financial results for Group reporting cycles.
π§Ύ Budgeting & Forecasting

Consolidate Group budget and forecasts for Exco and Board presentations.

Assist with modelling and presenting summary views across divisions.
π External Reporting & Governance

Prepare Interim Results, AFS, and other regulatory or statutory reports for Discovery Limited.

Assist External Reporting and Investor Relations with ad hoc financial queries.

Prepare and/or review SENS announcements relating to financial results.
π Audit Support

Liaise with internal and external auditors, providing required schedules and supporting documentation.
π§© Systems Administration

Assist with administration and maintenance of:
β Sage (accounting system)
β OneStream (reporting tool)
π Business Support

Address finance-related queries from internal stakeholders.

Provide data to the Group Risk team for Solvency and Embedded Value analysis.

β Technical Skills

Advanced knowledge of IFRS standards

Strong understanding of financial consolidation principles

Exceptional written and verbal communication

High levels of accuracy and attention to detail

Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines

Excellent project management ability

Advanced Excel proficiency

CA(SA) β fully qualified

0β3 years’ post-qualification experience

Experience in the insurance industry is advantageous
