Job Overview

Hyde Johannesburg Rosebank is seeking a Handyman to support the maintenance and upkeep of hotel facilities and equipment.

The role involves performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring that all facilities remain safe, functional, and well maintained. The successful candidate will respond to maintenance requests, repair equipment, and assist in maintaining high operational standards across the property.

This role requires a technically skilled individual who can work efficiently in a hospitality environment while maintaining excellent guest service standards.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities Maintenance

Maintain hotel furnishings, facilities, and equipment in good working condition
Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections
Carry out installations, repairs, and troubleshooting of electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical systems
Respond to equipment breakdowns and maintenance requests promptly

Operational Support

Perform scheduled cleaning and maintenance tasks
Ensure that maintenance work causes minimal disruption to guests and hotel operations
Maintain clean and organised storage areas for equipment and tools
Ensure that all equipment and facilities remain safe for use

Guest Service

Respond to guest maintenance requests politely and efficiently
Acknowledge guests respectfully when interacting in hotel areas
Report and return any guest belongings found during maintenance tasks
Ensure work areas are clean and ready for use after completing repairs

Quality and Compliance

Follow hotel policies, procedures, and quality standards
Complete required maintenance documentation and reports
Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes and facility standards
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the facilities team

Qualifications

Education

Trade qualification as an Electrician, Mechanic, or Plumber
Recognised Trade Test certification

Experience

Experience in facilities maintenance or technical repair roles
Exposure to maintenance in hospitality, commercial, or facilities environments is advantageous

Skills

Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and facility maintenance systems
Ability to troubleshoot equipment and technical faults
Strong communication skills in English
Ability to work safely under pressure
