Job Overview

The Head Chef will lead and manage all kitchen operations within a fast-paced catering environment.

This role involves menu planning, cost control, team leadership, stock management, compliance with hygiene regulations, and delivering high-quality food production that meets both client and VIP expectations.


Key Responsibilities

🍽 Kitchen & Food Production Management

  • Oversee all food preparation and presentation.

  • Ensure each dish meets quality, portion, and temperature standards.

  • Develop creative, upmarket menus aligned with customer needs.

📦 Stock & Cost Control

  • Manage food budgets, average spend, and profit margins.

  • Ensure stock availability at correct quality and quantity.

  • Report and follow up on maintenance issues.

👨‍🍳 Leadership & Team Development

  • Supervise and develop the culinary team.

  • Ensure staff understand daily operational requirements.

  • Promote professional growth within the kitchen.

📊 Business & Operations

  • Support operational management and deputise when required.

  • Maintain smooth communication between service and kitchen areas.

  • Stay updated with food trends and best practices.

🧼 Compliance & Hygiene

  • Ensure strict adherence to statutory and company hygiene regulations.

  • Improve kitchen systems and operational processes continuously.


Qualifications

🎓 Education

  • Matric Certificate.

  • Culinary qualification or diploma.

💼 Experience

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a similar Head Chef role.

  • Strong exposure to upmarket function catering.

  • Proven cost control and menu planning experience.

🧠 Skills

  • Leadership and people management skills.

  • Financial and cost management skills.

  • Strong organising and planning abilities.

  • Computer literacy.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Business acumen and production-driven mindset.
