Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is seeking a dynamic, highly skilled, and innovative professional to take on the role of Head: IT Support at our Tygerberg Campus. As the Head: IT Support, you will oversee ICT operations, lead a skilled team of support technicians, and play a strategic role in enhancing technology-driven solutions within one of South Africa’s leading academic institutions.


Key Responsibilities

🔹 Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the ICT support team.

  • Allocate tasks, troubleshoot advanced issues, and ensure timely resolutions.

  • Drive staff performance, conduct evaluations, and facilitate professional development.

🔹 Project Management

  • Oversee ICT-related projects from initiation to delivery.

  • Manage timelines, resources, and budgets while ensuring optimal execution.

  • Collaborate across faculties to meet strategic project outcomes.

🔹 ICT Operations Oversight

  • Ensure the performance, security, and reliability of IT infrastructure.

  • Lead technical support initiatives and maintenance of IT systems.

  • Coordinate vendor partnerships for equipment procurement and maintenance.

🔹 Business Process & Strategy

  • Analyse business processes to identify IT improvement opportunities.

  • Lead system and process upgrades to drive efficiency.

  • Deliver impactful user-focused ICT solutions.

🔹 Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with academic and administrative stakeholders to understand ICT needs.

  • Drive collaboration between departments and provide regular status updates on IT projects.

🔹 User Support

  • Manage IT helpdesk and end-user support services.

  • Monitor and improve user satisfaction through prompt issue resolution and training.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent certification with recognition of prior learning.

  • Up to 3 years of experience in a similar IT leadership or operational role.

  • Proficient understanding of IT infrastructure, systems management, and support services.


Preferred Certifications (Highly Advantageous)

  • ITIL, COBIT, TOGAF, or Prince II (Project/IT Governance).

  • Microsoft certifications.

  • SQL and Azure Cloud certification.

  • Linux certification (e.g., Server or Intro level).
