Job Overview

The Health & Safety Controller will report to the Health & Safety Manager and play a key role in ensuring the safety of all employees, contractors, and visitors at the Wadeville plant. This role is responsible for monitoring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, conducting inspections and audits, supporting incident investigations, and driving continuous safety improvements in line with Coca-Cola’s KORE standards.


Key Responsibilities

Health and Safety Compliance

  • Monitor plant activities to ensure compliance with KORE standards and legal safety regulations

  • Identify unsafe conditions or behaviours, escalate issues, and follow up on corrective actions

Risk Assessment & Mitigation

  • Support baseline and task-based risk assessments

  • Assist in implementing and tracking risk mitigation measures

Safety Inspections & Audits

  • Conduct routine safety inspections and document findings

  • Support formal internal and external safety audits

Incident Reporting & Investigation

  • Log and assist in investigating incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions

  • Support root cause analysis and documentation of preventative actions

Documentation & System Maintenance

  • Maintain safety records, risk assessments, safety data sheets, and compliance files

  • Ensure all legal appointments and health & safety plans are current

Training & Engagement

  • Coordinate scheduling and documentation of safety training, inductions, and toolbox talks

  • Support plant-wide safety campaigns and awareness initiatives

Contractor Oversight

  • Validate contractor safety documentation prior to work commencement

  • Monitor contractor adherence to safety standards on-site

Emergency Preparedness

  • Maintain emergency equipment and documentation

  • Participate in emergency drills and preparedness planning

Key Performance Indicators

  • Completion rate of safety inspections and corrective actions

  • Number of safety non-conformances resolved

  • Incident reporting and closure rate

  • Training records completion rate

  • Contractor safety compliance score

  • PPE compliance observations


Qualifications

Education

  • National Diploma or equivalent in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field (required)

  • SAMTRAC or equivalent certification (preferred)

  • Registration with SACPCMP or relevant OHS professional body (advantageous)

Experience

  • 3–5 years in a health & safety role within manufacturing or industrial environments

  • Experience with safety inspections, contractor management, incident reporting, and compliance documentation

  • Knowledge of South African OHS legislation and Department of Employment and Labour requirements

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and risk management practices

  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with EHS software is advantageous

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work shifts and respond to safety issues as required
