Are you a recent graduate passionate about improving public health? The eThekwini Municipality is proud to present its Health Sciences Work Experience Programme for 2025/2026. This exciting Internship and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunity is designed to provide practical workplace exposure to graduates in the field of Health Sciences, helping to bridge the gap between education and employment.
Whether you’re an Environmental Health graduate or a Nursing Science student, this programme offers real-life, public sector experience while earning a monthly stipend and supporting community health initiatives.
📍 Location:
eThekwini Municipality – KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
⏳ Duration:

18 months for TVET graduates (with N6 certificate)
-
24 months for university graduates
💰 Monthly Stipend:
R2 661.68 – R8 093.01, based on your qualification level
👩⚕️ Programme Overview
Interns will be placed within the Outreach & Capacity Building Department, under the Community Development Projects Branch, and report to a Project Manager. You’ll participate in meaningful work that contributes to the municipality’s health and safety goals while learning how to operate within local government structures and health regulations.
This internship is ideal for students in:

Environmental Health
-
Enrolled Nursing / Nursing Science
TVET students applying for Nated Diploma recognition through WIL (Work Integrated Learning) are encouraged to apply.
✅ Who Can Apply?
To qualify, applicants must:

Be a South African citizen
-
Hold a recognized qualification (N6 or higher), not older than 5 years
-
Not have participated in a government or private sector Internship, Learnership, or WIL programme for 12 months or more

Be currently unemployed and available to complete the programme’s full duration
-
Be committed to a career in public health service
