Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Head of Civil Engineering (HOD) to lead and manage our Civil Design team at South Zambezi. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chairman, executive directors, and Project Managers to oversee and drive the implementation of civil engineering projects from inception to completion. This role offers the opportunity to lead large-scale projects across various sectors, including water, sewer, roads, and municipal infrastructure, contributing to the growth and success of South Zambezi and Khato Civils.
Key Responsibilities:
✔ Project Leadership:
- Lead and manage a team of civil engineers, ensuring all project phases are executed according to specifications and standards.
- Oversee the planning, execution, monitoring, and control of civil engineering projects.
- Review and approve project proposals, timelines, and cost estimates, ensuring all project elements are within budget and scope.
✔ Design & Project Management:
- Manage the design, reporting, and execution of civil engineering projects, including water, sewer, roads, and stormwater systems.
- Supervise construction sites, ensuring compliance with design specifications, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Formulate systems for the smooth operation of the Civil Engineering division, ensuring all projects align with business goals.
✔ Team Development & Mentorship:
- Lead and mentor junior and senior engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to improve team effectiveness.
- Ensure employees are equipped with the necessary tools and resources to complete their tasks efficiently.
✔ Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Collaborate with contractors, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Resolve project challenges and conflicts, providing strategic solutions that align with business objectives.
- Maintain effective communication with clients and internal teams to ensure project timelines and deliverables are met.
✔ Compliance & Quality Control:
- Ensure compliance with international standards, local regulations, and ISO certification.
- Review and approve contractor contracts, monitor expenditure, and maintain cost control.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress and address any issues on-site.
Qualifications & Experience:
✔ Educational Requirements:
- BEng (Civil) or an equivalent degree in civil engineering.
- Professional registration with ECSA as PrEng (Professional Engineer) is mandatory.
✔ Experience:
- Minimum of 20 years in engineering design, management, and construction.
- At least 5 years of experience post-registration with ECSA or other recognized professional bodies.
- Proven experience in bulk water systems, wastewater infrastructure, road design, and stormwater management.
- Extensive experience in managing a team of engineers and leading large-scale infrastructure projects.
✔ Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and management capabilities.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Experience with MS Office, MS Project, and civil engineering software.
- Knowledge of local laws and regulations, including the OHS Act, Labour Law, and Employee Equity Act.
- Driver’s License is essential.
