Job Overview

The HR Consultant will be responsible for delivering comprehensive human resource services across the employee lifecycle. This includes recruitment, onboarding, performance management, industrial relations, and talent development. The role requires a proactive and detail-oriented professional who can support business operations while ensuring compliance with South African labour legislation and HR best practices.


Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Selection

  • Manage recruitment processes up to middle management level
  • Obtain approved recruitment requisitions before initiating hiring
  • Draft and publish internal and external job advertisements
  • Shortlist candidates and coordinate interviews
  • Conduct competency-based interviews
  • Ensure completion of all pre-employment checks and documentation
  • Provide feedback to unsuccessful candidates
  • Maintain accurate employee records and submit payroll information

Onboarding

  • Oversee onboarding and induction processes
  • Ensure new employees are effectively integrated into the business

Performance Management

  • Support rollout of job descriptions and performance frameworks
  • Ensure performance agreements align with business objectives
  • Train managers on performance evaluation processes
  • Facilitate performance reviews and improvement plans
  • Identify and address performance-related challenges

Talent Management & Succession Planning

  • Identify high-potential employees and support career development
  • Facilitate talent reviews and succession planning initiatives
  • Implement retention strategies and development plans
  • Promote employee engagement and growth

Employment Equity

  • Coordinate Employment Equity (EE) processes and meetings
  • Ensure compliance with EE requirements in recruitment and promotions

Industrial Relations (IR)

  • Manage disciplinary processes and hearings
  • Ensure compliance with labour legislation and company policies
  • Support CCMA case preparation and scheduling
  • Track warnings and IR-related reporting

Injury on Duty (IOD)

  • Manage IOD reporting and claims process
  • Follow up on claim status and documentation

Terminations & Exit Management

  • Conduct exit interviews and analyse trends
  • Ensure proper termination processes are followed

Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare and present monthly HR reports
  • Maintain updated HR data and consolidated reports
  • Communicate HR policies and initiatives effectively
  • Promote organisational values and ethical practices

Qualifications

Education:

  • Matric (preferred)
  • Diploma or Degree in Human Resources or related field (preferred or in progress)

Experience:

  • 2–3 years’ experience in an HR Consultant or similar role

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong Industrial Relations (IR) expertise
  • Knowledge of South African labour legislation (EE Act, BCEA, Labour Relations Act)
  • Recruitment and interview coordination skills
  • Strong reporting and administrative capabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver’s license
