🔹 About the Role
The Institute for Economic Justice (IEJ) is seeking a seasoned and values-driven Human Resources Manager to strengthen our HR systems and practices in alignment with our mission. As IEJ grows in size and complexity, this role will be central to enhancing staff well-being, ensuring compliance, and fostering organisational cohesion.
You will work closely with the Leadership Team and Line Managers to embed strategic HR processes, build organisational capacity, and promote a healthy, high-performance work culture. This is a leadership opportunity for an individual who thrives on people-centred growth and has a strong background in organisational development.
🛠️ Key Responsibilities
Culture & Organisational Development

Lead culture-building initiatives, including behavioural norms and “Ways of Working” frameworks

Facilitate organisational development interventions for alignment and team dynamics

Drive employee engagement, workplace wellness programs, and change readiness
Strategic HR Leadership & Compliance

Develop and implement HR policies and procedures aligned with employment legislation and IEJ priorities

Ensure compliance with BCEA, LRA, EEA, POPIA, and other applicable laws

Advise leadership on workforce planning, equity, and HR risk management
People, Systems & Operations

Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and career development

Standardise HR processes and documentation (contracts, SOPs, PDPs, grievances)

Research and implement digital HR systems for efficiency and analytics
Learning & Development

Coordinate and monitor Professional Development Plans across the organisation

Manage training programs and ensure equitable access to growth opportunities
🎓 Qualifications & Experience
-
Master’s degree in HR Management, Organisational Psychology, or related field (postgraduate preferred)

Minimum 7 years progressive HR experience, including 5+ years in senior leadership

Proven track record in organisational development, culture transformation, and change management
-
Experience in civil society, non-profit, or values-driven organisations

Strong understanding of South African labour law and compliance requirements
