Role Overview

The People Manager will serve as NMI South Africa’s most senior HR professional and its local employment law expert. Operating as a trusted advisor to leadership, the role blends strategic HR partnership with hands-on operational execution. The incumbent will lead employee relations, workplace culture, benefits administration, compliance, training, investigations, CCMA representation and HR governance. This role is essential for ensuring that local operations run smoothly and that South African labour requirements are met within a global organisational context. Evening work is required to align with US time zones.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic HR Leadership

  • Serve as a core member of the South Africa onsite leadership team.

  • Shape and maintain a positive workplace culture aligned to NMI’s global values.

  • Develop and implement HR policies tailored to South African legislation and organisational needs.

  • Advise global and local leaders on strategic people matters.

  • Lead employee engagement, retention and culture-building initiatives.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Manage onboarding, offboarding and full employee lifecycle processes.

  • Identify and proactively mitigate employee relations risks.

  • Conduct or coordinate workplace investigations with global People partners.

  • Manage disciplinary processes in compliance with legislation and company policy.

  • Ensure compliance with LRA, BCEA, EEA and all South African labour requirements.

  • Represent NMI at CCMA hearings with demonstrable success.

Training & Development

  • Facilitate leadership capability development.


Qualifications & Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labour Law or a related field.

  • 5–7 years of progressive HR generalist and leadership experience.

  • Proven success representing employers at CCMA with positive outcomes.

  • Strong working knowledge of South African employment legislation and case law.

  • Experience working within a global or multinational organisation (US exposure required).

  • HR certification such as SABPP or CPHR SA is advantageous.

Working Arrangements

This position is fully on-site in Cape Town. Working hours are 12 PM – 9 PM SAST to support the US-aligned People function and broader global operations.
