Purpose of the Role:

As an HSE Compliance Officer at FLSmidth, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring health, safety, and environmental compliance at the operational work level. Your focus will be on ensuring that our work sites meet safety regulations and FLSmidth’s internal HSE standards while also complying with the specific client requirements.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to safety improvements, ensuring zero harm and helping create a sustainable working environment for all employees and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

🔒 Ensure HSE Compliance

  • Meet HSE KPIs and ensure adherence to both company and client HSE policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of all health & safety equipment, certifications, and inspections.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, ensuring all equipment and operations meet safety standards.

📋 Documentation & Reporting

  • Manage and update all HSE training, inductions, and compliance documents.
  • Investigate all incidents/accidents and provide recommendations to ensure safety is prioritized.
  • Maintain and update contractor packs and safety files for upcoming projects.

🛠️ Health, Safety, & Environmental Assurance

  • Oversee all safety, health, and environmental assurance tasks on-site.
  • Monitor hazardous or unsafe situations and develop effective measures to eliminate risks.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure safety protocols are followed.

📈 Promote HSE Awareness

  • Collaborate with clients to ensure that fire drills and emergency procedures are followed.
  • Proactively promote HSE awareness to all team members and external contractors.

🛣️ Travel and Support

  • Provide on-site support for FLSmidth projects, assisting with safety-related matters.
  • Be prepared to travel to FLSmidth sites as needed.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education: Matric/Grade 12 and National Diploma/BTECH in Safety Management (or equivalent).
  • Certifications: SAMTRAC/COMSOC Course or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Experience: 2–4 years of experience in an HSE environment (preferably in construction or mining).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • License: Driver’s License is essential.
  • Safety Management Tools: Familiarity with the KBC Passport 360 web-based HSE application.

Desirable: Experience in audits, inspections, risk assessments, and safety document control.
