The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) invites all unemployed graduates to apply for the HSRC Internship Programme 2025-27. This is a fantastic opportunity to build practical skills in Science, Engineering, Technology (SET), Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), as well as Research Development and Innovation fields.

At HSRC, we focus on:
- π§βπ¬ Building Skilled Human Resources β Boosting the National System of Innovation (NSI) by increasing skilled workforce numbers in both SET and HSS.
- π Providing Work Experience β Giving graduates hands-on exposure to critical research and development projects.
- π Capacity Building β Offering interns the opportunity to develop vital soft skills like time management, communication, and work etiquette.
π Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the HSRC Internship Programme 2025-27, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- πΏπ¦ South African Citizenship β You must be a South African citizen or a South African Permanent Resident with a valid ID.
- π Educational Qualifications β Hold a qualification at NQF level 7 to 9 from a DHET-accredited institution in the following areas:
- Science, Engineering, Technology (SET)
- Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS)
- Research, Development, Innovation
- π Age Limit β Applicants must be 35 years or younger at the time of appointment.
- π« Exclusions β Candidates holding a diploma below NQF Level 7, PhD holders, or full-time doctoral students are not eligible.
π Host Institutions
To participate in the programme, the host institutions must:
- π« Provide Infrastructure β Ensure the availability of workstations, computers, and remote working tools.
- π§βπ« Assign a Mentor β Offer long-term mentors who are available for training and support.
- π Commit to Participating β Engage in mentor forums and training programs offered by the internship programme.
π± Our Approach
The HSRC Internship Programme is designed to provide holistic development:
- π¨βπ« Mentorship β Interns will be paired with experienced mentors to enhance both technical and soft skills.
- πΌ Employee Wellness β A comprehensive wellness program offers support for mental, financial, and emotional health.
- π Transversal Skills Training β Workshops and training sessions to develop essential workplace skills, from time management to team collaboration.
π° Remuneration
Participants in the HSRC Internship Programme receive monthly stipends throughout the 24-month duration of the programme.
β³ Duration
The internship lasts 24 months.
π Recruitment Process
The recruitment process for the HSRC Internship Programme 2025-27 involves the following steps:
- Hosts Apply: Institutions submit requests for intern profiles.
- Graduate Applications Open: Graduates submit their applications for available internships.
- Shortlisting: Hosts shortlist candidates and conduct interviews.
- Verification: HSRC verifies eligibility and facilitates contracts for successful applicants.
