About the Role:
Varsity College, an esteemed educational institution under The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), is looking for a passionate Independent Contract Lecturer to join its Pretoria campus. The lecturer will teach the Building Support Networks for Children and Families module on a part-time basis. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lecturing: Deliver lectures on the Building Support Networks for Children and Families module, covering key sociological concepts related to social development and policy.

  • Course Preparation: Prepare engaging study materials, reading resources, and assessments.

  • Student Engagement: Foster an interactive and supportive learning environment for students, encouraging active participation and inquiry.

  • Assessment and Evaluation: Mark assignments, projects, and exams while maintaining academic integrity and fairness.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ideal Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Arts Honours or Bachelor of Social Science Honours in Sociology.

    • Alternatively, a Postgraduate Diploma, MA/MPhil, or PhD/DPhil in Sociology or related fields is preferred.

    • NQF 8 qualification in social development, policy, or related areas.

  • Experience:

    • Previous lecturing experience in Sociology is desirable.

    • Although work experience is not a strict requirement for this theory-based module, experience applying sociological theory in real-world settings (e.g., politics, rural, or developmental sociology) is beneficial.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: Be clear, articulate, and able to present complex ideas effectively.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Build rapport with students and colleagues in an academic environment.

  • Self-Management: Ability to manage workload independently, with a proactive approach to teaching and administration.

Working Conditions:

  • This is an Independent Contractor role.

  • The position is part-time, with lectures taking place from 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday.
