The Role: Java Developer (Intermediate)
As a Java Developer, you will play an essential role in supporting Discovery’s Systems of Engagement. This team is responsible for creating and managing solutions that drive Discovery’s Direct Sales Channel operations, and support Marketing and Distribution efforts. You’ll work with a passionate team of developers to design, develop, and maintain Java-based solutions for a dynamic, multi-national company.
Key Responsibilities:

🖥️ Develop, test, and maintain high-quality Java-based application software.

🔧 Troubleshoot and enhance existing applications.

✍️ Assist with creating technical specifications and designs.

🔄 Promote new technologies and share your expertise within the team.

🔍 Perform code reviews and recommend improvements to development processes.

Education & Experience:

🎓 Minimum: Matric/Grade 12 with formal Java qualifications.

📚 Preferred: IT-related Degree or Diploma (BSc/BTech or similar).

🖥️ Experience:
-
3+ years in Java systems development.
-
Strong knowledge of Java EE, XML/XSD/JAXB, Web Services.

Familiarity with Unit testing, ORM/Hibernate/JPA, and Spring Framework.
-
Experience with JMS, Tibco EMS, SOAP (XML/JSON), and Oracle/PLSQL.

Preferred Skills:
-
🌐 Presentation Layer Development: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, GWT, Spring MVC.

🧠 Experience with Business Rules Management Frameworks.

🔄 Exposure to Agile principles and methodologies such as Continuous Integration and Test-Driven Development.
