Social Development

Job Purpose

The Department of Social Development, Western Cape Government, seeks suitably qualified and competent social workers to provide social work services within the service delivery areas through the promotion of social change, problem-solving in human relationships, and the empowerment and liberation of people to enhance social well-being.

Minimum Requirements

  • A formal tertiary qualification in Social Work (Bachelor of Social Work) that allows professional registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions as a Social Worker
  • Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions as a Social Worker
    • Grade 1: No experience
    • Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years of appropriate experience in Social Work after registration as a Social Worker with the South African Council for Social Service Professions
    • Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years of appropriate experience in Social Work after registration as a Social Worker with the South African Council for Social Service Professions
    • Grade 4: A minimum of 30 years of appropriate experience in Social Work after registration as a Social Worker with the South African Council for Social Service Professions

Recommendation

  • A valid (Code B or higher) driving license (People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities, but who have reasonable access to transport, may also apply)

  • Provide social work services for the care, support, protection, and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families, and communities through relevant programs (casework, group work, and community work)

Remuneration

  • Grade 1: R 308 247 – R 362 439 per annum

  • Grade 4: R 554 919 – R 687 918 per annum
    (Note: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for OSD include all costs related to service benefits or obligations, such as basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc.)
