The Faculty of Humanities now invites applications for a Junior Lecturer in Graphic Design, specialising in Multimedia, Motion Graphics, and Interaction Design. This role offers the opportunity to join a dynamic School of Communication that blends creativity, research, technology, and industry collaboration.


🎨 Purpose of the Position

This one-year academic appointment is aimed at strengthening the Graphic Design programme by bringing in an innovative lecturer who can teach across undergraduate levels, contribute to curriculum development, support student projects, and integrate industry trends into teaching and research activities.


πŸ“Œ Key Responsibilities (Expanded & Rewritten)

1. Teaching & Learning

  • Deliver engaging lectures in Multimedia and Graphic Design from first to fourth year.

  • Guide students through concept development, design execution, and industry-aligned projects.

  • Incorporate research-based methodologies into studio and theoretical modules.

  • Ensure students gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software and tools.

  • Create an inclusive, dynamic learning environment that mirrors the realities of the creative industry.

2. Curriculum Development

  • Assist with curriculum reviews to reflect evolving design, motion graphics, and digital communication trends.

  • Contribute to the long-term growth of the Graphic Design subject group through new module development and practical enhancements.

3. Scholarly Work & Research

  • Participate in collaborative research activities within the School of Communication.

  • Support the integration of research outputs into teaching and design practice.

4. Student Guidance & Mentorship

  • Provide supervision and academic support to final-year students.

  • Offer feedback on portfolios, project development, and research-related tasks.

5. Administrative & Academic Operations

  • Handle all admin linked to teaching, assessments, and moderation.

  • Update study guides and project briefs annually.

  • Contribute to departmental committees, events, and School projects.

  • Participate in community engagement initiatives and external collaborations.


πŸŽ“ Minimum Requirements

  • Four-year degree or Honours Degree in Graphic Design, with a focus on motion graphics or interaction design.

  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or postgraduate students.

  • Demonstrated industry experience supported by a Portfolio of Evidence.


🧩 Functional / Technical Competencies

  • Strong background in contemporary Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, and Interaction Design.

  • Ability to apply theory and practice within higher education and creative industry settings.

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Audition, Character Animator).

  • Experience with 3D or motion tools: Blender, Cinema 4D, or Maya.

  • Able to operate comfortably in a MAC Studio environment.
