Our Kumba Iron Ore business is one of the world’s largest producers of high-grade iron ore. Join our Processing (PRO) team in Kathu, where we produce the raw materials that shape modern infrastructure and industry.

🔬 About the Role: Laboratory Assistant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Laboratory Assistant to support our Processing team. In this role, you’ll ensure all sampling and lab procedures are aligned with ISO standards, Anglo Good Laboratory Practices, and Kumba Laboratory Technical Standards.

This is a 3-year fixed-term contract opportunity that offers hands-on experience in a world-class mining environment.

🧪 Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environment:

Promote a safety-first culture by adhering to health and safety standards.
Participate in initiatives like SLAM and HPH.
Maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment.

Laboratory Operations:

Collect samples from various plant locations (raw materials, in-process, and finished products).
Label, store, and handle samples to maintain integrity and prevent contamination.
Operate lab equipment like the laser diffraction particle size analyzer (LDV).
Dry, weigh, split, sieve, crush, mill, and press samples for detailed analysis.
Monitor quality control (QC) processes and capture data accurately.
Report faulty equipment and avoid unauthorized maintenance tasks.
Collaborate with supervisors and technical staff to meet performance goals.

✅ Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Grade 12 / N3 Certificate
Valid Code B South African Driver’s License (mandatory)
Overhead crane license (advantageous)

Experience:

Previous experience at Sishen Mine will be advantageous.
Familiarity with laboratory protocols and the operation of overhead cranes.
