Role Purpose

The Labour Relations Manager is responsible for maintaining a stable and healthy labour relations environment across the business. This role provides expert labour relations guidance, represents the company at external dispute resolution forums, and builds Industrial Relations capability across Line Managers, People teams, and Shop Stewards through coaching, training, and advisory support.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional labour relations advice to sites, regions, and business units

  • Represent the company at external dispute resolution forums and tribunals

  • Build Industrial Relations capability through training, coaching, and advisory support

  • Communicate labour relations developments, case law, and legislative updates

  • Guide management on resolving labour relations issues and processes

  • Monitor compliance with labour legislation, company policies, and procedures

  • Support the People Team in ensuring consistent application of precedent and best practice

  • Keep company policies and procedures aligned with legislative and case law developments

  • Support the Labour Relations Director with reporting and strategic input

  • Prepare for and conduct wage negotiations

  • Deliver labour relations consulting support to the business

  • Maintain healthy relationships with shop stewards and union officials

  • Strong advisory and case-handling capability

  • Excellent negotiation, influencing, and facilitation skills

  • Proven relationship-building and stakeholder management skills

  • Strong planning and organisational ability

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Advanced PowerPoint and Excel proficiency

  • High energy, resilience, and adaptability


Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Relevant Degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations, or Law

  • Postgraduate qualification in Labour Relations or Labour Law (advantageous)

Experience

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a Labour Relations function or environment

  • Experience working across multiple African labour jurisdictions

  • Proven experience in:

    • Dispute resolution and tribunal representation

    • Collective bargaining and wage negotiations

    • Union engagement and relationship management

    • Industrial Relations capability building
