Role Overview

Zutari is expanding its Data Centre engineering capability and seeks a Lead Electrical Engineer to spearhead the technical delivery of mission-critical infrastructure across Africa and global regions. This senior role requires leadership, innovation, design excellence, and the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams. The position plays a decisive role in developing resilient, scalable, energy-efficient electrical systems for world-class data centre environments.

You will lead design execution, engage top-tier clients, oversee complex project lifecycles, and drive strategic growth in the data centre engineering market.


Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead full-phase electrical design for data centre projects.

  • Manage project resources, fee estimates, forecasts, timelines, risk, and performance.

  • Guide and review tender processes, contractor submissions, and technical evaluations.

  • Prepare technical reports, design specifications, and basis-of-design documents.

  • Ensure accurate, QA-aligned documentation and BIM integration.

Technical Excellence & Innovation

  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, Uptime Institute and regional standards.

  • Deliver energy-efficient, resilient, and scalable LV/MV electrical systems.

  • Drive innovation and adopt emerging technologies in data centre design.

  • Maintain strong vendor and supplier relationships.

Team & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead multidisciplinary coordination across engineering teams.

  • Engage clients, contractors, and project partners effectively.

  • Facilitate technical workshops, team development, and mentoring.

  • Oversee design quality, modelling, and structured data management.

Business Development

  • Represent Zutari at conferences, forums, and industry events.

  • Support proposals, bid responses, and strategic growth initiatives.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng or BSc Eng).

  • Pr Eng professional registration required.

  • Minimum 8 years’ electrical design experience, including 3+ years in data centre/mission-critical environments.

  • Strong command of international and local standards (South Africa & Middle East).

  • Proven leadership in large-scale infrastructure delivery.

  • Expertise in LV/MV, UPS, standby power, and earthing systems.

  • Proficiency in ETAP, Dialux, Windchill, ACC, Revit, Navisworks, and BIM workflows.

  • Capability in load calculations, protection studies, and fault analysis.

  • Familiarity with hyperscale and colocation environments.

  • Strong communication and cross-border stakeholder management skills.

  • International project exposure and ability to lead remote teams.

  • Understanding of sustainability and energy-efficient electrical solutions.
