Job Overview

Capitec is seeking an experienced Lead: Internal Auditor with strong credit risk expertise to lead end-to-end internal audits across the full credit lifecycle.

This role focuses on independently challenging credit practices, identifying control weaknesses, and providing practical recommendations that improve credit risk governance and operational controls.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership, influence decision-making, and help build credit capability within the wider audit team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end credit internal audits
• Assess the overall credit risk and control environment
• Review governance, origination, fulfilment, and collections processes
• Evaluate monitoring practices and control effectiveness
• Identify root causes of credit weaknesses
• Recommend practical control and risk improvements
• Present findings to senior stakeholders
• Provide subject matter expertise to internal audit teams
• Strengthen credit audit capability within the function
• Support enterprise governance and risk management objectives
• Perform data-driven audit analysis

Qualifications

Education

Minimum:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in:
  • Accounting
  • Auditing
  • Finance
  • Risk Management
  • Banking

Advantageous:

• Professional qualification such as:
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
  • CA(SA)

Experience

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a risk-based auditing environment
• Strong experience auditing credit risk
• Banking or financial services sector experience
• Practical knowledge of the full credit lifecycle, including:
  • origination
  • approval
  • fulfilment
  • monitoring
  • collections
  • default and recovery
• Experience presenting findings to senior leadership
• Data analysis and reporting experience
