Role Purpose

The Lead: Software Testing role is a senior leadership position responsible for driving testing excellence across the product line. The role focuses on end-to-end testing strategy, test automation enablement, and quality leadership across delivery teams.

You will define and execute a comprehensive testing vision and quality roadmap aligned to organisational goals. In addition, you will ensure long-term sustainability of the testing capability through career development frameworks, technical leadership, and structured skills development.

This role requires a strong technical foundation, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence quality culture across multiple teams in a fast-paced, modern DevOps environment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Develop and implement a testing vision and strategy aligned with business objectives
Define and maintain a quality roadmap to support continuous improvement
Lead innovation in testing methodologies and enforce best practices
Drive cross-team quality initiatives and stakeholder collaboration
Stay current with industry trends and contribute to the testing community

Technical Excellence and Automation Leadership

Make architecture decisions for end-to-end test automation frameworks using JavaScript and TypeScript
Lead the implementation of Playwright-based automation solutions
Integrate BrowserStack for cross-browser and native mobile testing
Design scalable, maintainable automation solutions across modern technology stacks
Develop custom JavaScript / TypeScript testing tools and frameworks
Conduct code reviews and mentor testers on automation best practices
Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows
Establish testing standards for web, mobile, and API layers

Business Value and Quality Assurance

Define and track meaningful quality metrics and demonstrate testing ROI
Design and implement risk-based testing strategies
Oversee creation of test plans, test cases, and automation scripts
Ensure quality is embedded throughout the SDLC
Support release management and testing governance
Promote a strong, organisation-wide culture of quality

Qualifications

Minimum

Grade 12 National Certificate / Vocational
Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Information Management

Experience

Minimum

5+ years’ experience in QA testing and test planning
Strong hands-on experience in JavaScript / TypeScript automation development
Experience designing and maintaining end-to-end test automation frameworks from scratch
Solid understanding of modern web technologies and distributed systems
Strong stakeholder engagement and influence capabilities

Advantageous

5+ years’ experience leading or managing technical testing teams
3+ years’ experience in banking or financial services IT
Advanced Playwright automation experience
Expert-level BrowserStack usage for web and mobile testing
Native mobile app testing using Appium
CI/CD pipeline integration with automated testing
Experience testing APIs, microservices, and cloud-based systems
Release management exposure

Knowledge

Required

Full SDLC and STLC understanding
Advanced JavaScript / TypeScript (async/await, modern patterns)
End-to-end testing strategies across multiple platforms
API and backend testing using JavaScript-based tools
Git version control and branching strategies
CI/CD integration (e.g. GitHub Actions)
Agile delivery methodologies
Database interaction using JavaScript with MSSQL or Postgres
