About the Role:

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is seeking a proactive Learning and Development Practitioner to plan, design, and implement learning and development initiatives aligned with both individual and business objectives. This role is focused on supporting technical and core value chain departments within SANBS. As part of a dedicated team, you will play a key role in identifying development needs, designing interventions, and delivering impactful learning programs to enhance workforce capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify Learning and Development Needs:

    • Collaborate with line managers to identify learning needs, aligning them with business objectives and individual development plans (IDPs).
    • Conduct needs analysis through work area assessments, performance reports, and other data sources.
  • Design and Develop Learning Interventions:

    • Develop and design relevant learning and development programs based on identified needs.
    • Ensure all programs are aligned with registered unit standards, qualifications, and skills programs.
    • Create training materials, including learner and facilitator guides, and ensure e-learning programs are SCORM-compliant for SANBS’ Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Implement and Facilitate Training:

    • Facilitate training sessions according to the planned schedule.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of learning interventions using The Kirkpatrick Evaluation Model or Phillips ROI methodology.
    • Provide feedback to learners and supervisors, and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
  • Administrative Support:

    • Organize logistics for training sessions, including venue booking, materials, and equipment.
    • Maintain accurate records of attendance, CPD points, and learner progress.
    • Assist with compiling monthly, quarterly, and annual training reports for the Workplace Skills Plan & Implementation Reports (WSPIR).
  • Manage Training Budgets:

    • Assist in the development of Learning & Development business plans and budgets.
    • Ensure cost-effective implementation of training programs while adhering to budget constraints.
  • Compliance and Accreditation:

    • Ensure compliance with SANBS, SANAS, HPCSA, and HWSETA accreditation standards.
    • Ensure safety, health, and environmental (SHE) requirements are met in all training environments.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Educational Background:

    • National Diploma in Nursing Science, Nursing Education, or Nursing Management (or equivalent).
    • Professional registration as a Registered Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
  • Experience:

    • At least 1 year of routine whole blood collection in a blood transfusion environment.
    • Experience with learning and development practices in a technical field is an advantage.
  • Skills:

    • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) at an intermediate level.
    • Strong facilitation, presentation, and communication skills.
    • Knowledge of the Skills Development Act and relevant legislation.
