The Department of Linguistics at UWC, part of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, is a dynamic, research-focused environment with specializations in:

🎯 Role Responsibilities

As a Lecturer, you’ll play a vital role in:

  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in linguistics, communication, and/or media studies

  • Supervising research and mentoring postgraduate students

  • Enhancing the department’s research profile and academic networks

  • Contributing to curriculum development and teaching innovation

  • Coordinating modules and serving on departmental/faculty committees

  • Engaging in community outreach in line with UWC’s strategic goals


✅ Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics with specialization in Communication and/or Media Studies

  • At least 1 publication in an accredited journal or equivalent research output

  • Experience in hybrid teaching (face-to-face and online modes)

  • Up-to-date knowledge of media trends and communication platforms


➕ Recommendations (Strongly Preferred)

  • PhD (or enrolled) in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics/African Languages

  • Proficiency in or ability to work with African languages (including Afrikaans)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of linguistics, communication, and/or critical media studies
