North-West University (NWU) in Potchefstroom is seeking passionate and qualified individuals to fill Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor positions within the School of Industrial Engineering. Key Responsibilities:

Teaching:

  • Prepare comprehensive study guides and subject material for undergraduate courses.

  • Deliver engaging and informative lectures and practical sessions.

  • Assess students’ work through marking and providing constructive feedback.

  • Supervise final-year students, offering guidance on topic selection and project development.

  • Liaise with external clients, organizing frequent project meetings with students.

  • Represent the university at various marketing events and on faculty committees.

Research:

  • Conduct research towards your qualification, focusing on cutting-edge developments in industrial engineering.

  • Co-supervise postgraduate students, contributing to the academic growth of the department.

  • Stay active within professional/academic societies to maintain industry relevance.

School Administration:

  • Represent the school and faculty at events.

  • Manage general office and academic administration duties to support smooth operations within the department.

Minimum Requirements:

For Lecturer:

  • Educational Qualification: M.Eng (NQF level 9) in Industrial Engineering or a B.Eng (NQF level 8) in Industrial Engineering.

  • Experience: At least 1 year of teaching or student assistant experience and 2 years of independent research or industry experience.

For Senior Lecturer:

  • Educational Qualification: PhD (NQF level 10) in Industrial Engineering or related field OR M.Eng with Pr.Eng in Industrial Engineering.

  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience and 3 years’ independent research or industry experience.

For Associate Professor:

  • Educational Qualification: PhD in Industrial Engineering or related field, M.Eng in Industrial Engineering, B.Eng in Industrial Engineering.

  • Experience: 5+ years’ teaching experience and a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.

For Professor:

  • Educational Qualification: PhD in Industrial Engineering or related field, M.Eng in Industrial Engineering, B.Eng in Industrial Engineering.

  • Experience: Significant research output, including publications and international conference presentations, along with 5+ years of teaching experience.

Additional Advantages & Preferences:

  • Professional membership with SAIIE is highly preferred.

  • Candidates who are registerable as Pr.Eng (Industrial Engineering) within the next year will be given preference.

  • Industry experience within industrial engineering is an added advantage.

Key Competencies:

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and modern educational platforms (e.g., eFundi, whiteboard technology).

  • Knowledge of assessment theory and research methodology.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative academic team.

Remuneration:

The annual total remuneration package will be competitive and in line with the NWU policy guidelines, dependent on the level of appointment.
