🎯 Role Purpose

The Legal Specialist will provide expert legal support across Discovery Green’s rapidly expanding portfolio. This includes advising on project finance transactions, power purchase agreements (PPAs), NDAs, regulatory compliance, contractual analysis, and high court matters. The role is ideal for a legal professional passionate about renewable energy, commercial contracting, and contributing to South Africa’s energy transformation.

🔑 Key Responsibilities

Legal Advisory & Support

  • Provide clear, practical legal advice on commercial, contractual, and regulatory matters.

  • Collaborate with internal teams across Discovery Green and the broader Discovery Group.

Contract Drafting & Negotiation

  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts including PPAs, NDAs, service agreements and project finance documentation.

  • Ensure all legal instruments comply with relevant legislation and internal policies.

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Advise on compliance obligations in the renewable energy sector.

  • Keep up to date with legal developments impacting energy, finance, and commercial law.

Project Finance & High Court Proceedings

  • Support legal processes for project finance transactions and financial close requirements.

  • Prepare briefs and liaise with attorneys for matters referred to litigation.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work effectively with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, project managers, finance specialists and external partners.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with customers, regulators, and service providers.

🎓 Education, Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognised South African institution.

  • Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.

  • Current enrolment with the Legal Practice Council.

  • Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience.

  • Experience in renewable energy or project finance is highly advantageous.
