About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Foreman to take a leadership role in managing our engineering team, driving the maintenance, repair, and optimization of equipment. This role requires a highly skilled individual with hands-on expertise in mechanical and electrical systems, who can lead and mentor a team of artisans, operators, and assistants. Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
✔️ Manage and lead the engineering team, handling HR and IR issues.
✔️ Oversee daily activities across shifts, ensuring efficient maintenance and operations.
✔️ Train, mentor, and develop the team to enhance performance and reduce downtime.
✔️ Address skill gaps using the skills matrix and implement training plans.
✔️ Be available on call-out, working weekends as needed, to maintain equipment performance.
✔️ Foster a positive company culture and high morale within the team.
Budgets and Administration:
✔️ Monitor and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring costs stay aligned with financial reports.
✔️ Collaborate with the Plant Engineer to create and commit to the annual engineering budget.
✔️ Oversee store requisitions and authorize invoices before submission.
✔️ Ensure accurate reporting, particularly in collaboration with the maintenance planner and engineering staff.
✔️ Maintain proper documentation and prepare inspection reports.
Planned Maintenance:
✔️ Manage and plan preventative and planned maintenance activities in conjunction with the asset care planner.
✔️ Ensure all materials, equipment, and supplies are available for scheduled maintenance tasks.
✔️ Develop work schedules that minimize downtime and adhere to food safety and operational requirements.
✔️ Supervise contractors on daily tasks and ensure accountability.
Project Management:
✔️ Provide input on the feasibility of projects, analyzing technology and resources to ensure project success.
✔️ Work with the Project Engineer to meet internal customer requirements and prepare accurate project specifications.
✔️ Ensure the timely and budget-conscious implementation of projects with available resources.
Safety and Security:
✔️ Ensure adherence to safety regulations, ensuring all engineering staff follow safety procedures.
✔️ Oversee safety equipment, security access points, and ensure staff follow safety protocols.
✔️ Drive compliance with food safety standards in all engineering tasks.
Stock Control and SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality):
✔️ Control the distribution of equipment and supplies to the engineering team.
✔️ Ensure stock levels are maintained and verified regularly.
✔️ Ensure legislative standards are met and compliance is consistently maintained within the team.
✔️ Monitor sustainability practices and food safety standards in the department.
Effective Teamwork and Self-Management:
✔️ Take ownership of tasks and ensure adherence to quality and productivity standards.
✔️ Demonstrate excellent time management and problem-solving skills to meet team goals.
✔️ Champion training and development, contributing to the team’s growth and performance.
Ad hoc/Other:
✔️ Maintain and safeguard records within the department.
✔️ Compile ad hoc reports or documents as required.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Qualifications:
✔️ Qualified Mechanical/Electrical Artisan with a National Technical Diploma or equivalent (NTS 6).
Experience:
✔️ Minimum 5 years experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance.
✔️ At least 2 years of supervisory experience in an engineering environment.
Skills & Competencies:
✔️ Strong leadership and team management skills.
✔️ Proficiency in managing budgets and administrative tasks.
✔️ Solid understanding of maintenance processes and procedures.
✔️ Excellent communication skills for team coordination and reporting.
✔️ Strong focus on safety, food safety, and compliance.
✔️ Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex maintenance issues effectively.
