Internship Overview

Are you a driven Mechanical Engineering student or recent graduate looking to kickstart your engineering career? Fives invites you to join our dynamic team as a Mechanical Engineering Intern for a 12-month fixed-term contract based in Richards Bay.

This internship provides valuable practical exposure to mechanical engineering within an industrial environment. You will support engineers and technicians in design tasks, project coordination, technical documentation, and site-based project activities, gaining hands-on experience that will build your professional skill set.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in mechanical design work, including drafting, drawing revisions, and performing basic engineering calculations.

• Support the preparation and maintenance of technical documentation, engineering reports, and project files.

• Participate in supervised site visits and inspections to observe and assist with project execution.

• Collect data, take measurements, and conduct condition assessments of mechanical equipment.

• Help coordinate with suppliers and contractors on minor project tasks.

• Maintain organized records of engineering and technical documents for easy retrieval.

• Provide day-to-day operational assistance to the Mechanical Engineer and Technician team members.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, with excellent academic performance.

• Basic understanding of mechanical systems, engineering principles, and design concepts.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and familiarity with basic CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team.

• Eagerness to learn and willingness to work in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

• A valid driver’s license is an advantage but not essential.
