City of Cape Town Metro Police and Traffic

About the Learnership:
The learnership will be delivered by the Public Safety Training College and offers participants in-depth training in road traffic law enforcement, empowering them to serve the community effectively and responsibly. Successful learners will receive a stipend of R34.91 per hour during the programme.

Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate

  • Permanent residency within the City of Cape Town (proof required)

  • Proficiency in English and one other official language

  • Unemployed status (students and EPWP staff are welcome to apply)

  • Aged 18 to 34 years old

  • Medically and physically fit to complete rigorous training

  • No criminal record (criminal checks will be performed)

  • Valid driver’s license (Code B, manual transmission)

  • No visible tattoos when wearing the official uniform

  • Must meet all health and physical criteria

Compulsory Fitness Assessments Include:

  • 2.4 km run: Males – 11 minutes | Females – 13 minutes

  • 30 push-ups in 60 seconds

  • 30 sit-ups in 60 seconds

  • 100m dead load carry (2 x 25kg weights)

  • 20m tyre drag

  • 20m shuttle runs (10 in 60 seconds)

  • 2.1m wall climb

  • Motorcycle reach test

  • Comfort swim (unassisted)

Note: Pregnant individuals are not permitted to participate in physical assessments.

Selection Process:

  • Written assessment and interview

  • Physical and psychological evaluations

  • Medical screening and drug testing

  • Driver competency test

  • Fingerprint and criminal record verification

Special Conditions to Note:

  • Training period: 1 June 2025 – 30 November 2026

  • No guarantee of permanent job placement after completion

  • Compliance with the Code of Conduct and successful completion of all unit standards is required

  • Trainees must wear uniforms, work in all weather, and operate across various Cape Town locations

  • Applicants previously dismissed for misconduct in local government are not eligible

  • No outside work or business engagements without formal approval
