Role Purpose
The Occupational Health Nurse will spearhead the delivery of a comprehensive occupational healthcare programme. The successful candidate will ensure all legal and industry-specific requirements are met while promoting a safe and healthy work environment.
Key Requirements
✔️ Education & Certification:
• National Senior Certificate (Essential)
• Degree/Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing (Essential)
• Certificates in Audiology, Spirometry, and Vision Screening (Essential)
• Valid Dispensing Course Certificate (Essential)
✔️ Professional Registration:
• Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Occupational Health Practitioner
• Valid registration with the South African Society of Occupational Health Nurses (SASOHN)
✔️ Experience & Skills:
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in Occupational Health Nursing
• Strong understanding of the Health & Safety Act and relevant legislation
• MS Office 365 proficiency
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and empathy in patient care
✔️ Additional Requirements:
• Valid driver’s licence and own insured vehicle
• Willingness to be on standby for after-hour injuries
• Ability to work independently and under pressure
Duties & Responsibilities
✔️ Medical Surveillance & Screening:
• Implement and evaluate risk-based medical surveillance programmes, including pre-employment, baseline, annual, transfer, and exit screenings.
✔️ Occupational Safety & Health:
• Manage activities related to occupational safety, health, and waste management.
• Monitor and administer Injury on Duty cases and be available on standby.
✔️ Emergency Response & Consultation:
• Respond to on-site medical emergencies.
• Provide consultation, counselling, and referrals to employees as required.
✔️ Wellness & Education:
• Conduct frequent health education talks to promote workplace wellness.
• Assist in integrating employees back into the workplace after prolonged absences.
✔️ Compliance & Administration:
• Ensure adherence to all occupational health legislation.
• Perform administrative duties including data capturing, record management, and audit participation.
✔️ Continuous Development:
• Stay updated with professional, industry, and legislative advancements to enhance service delivery.
