JOB OVERVIEW

The Operations Engineer will play a critical role in strengthening Shoprite’s distribution centre performance through the implementation of engineering projects, systems optimisation, and process improvements. The role focuses on applying industrial engineering principles to enhance supply chain efficiency, system stability, and operational competitiveness within a fast-paced FMCG environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Research and implement best practices across supply chain and distribution centre operations
Provide engineering input into operational procedures to improve reliability and stability
Investigate and assess new technologies relevant to distribution centre environments
Analyse large data sets to support KPI development, reporting, and decision-making
Manage site-specific engineering projects from planning to post-implementation support
Develop project plans, business cases, and supporting documentation
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative solutions
Perform cost-benefit analysis and justify capital expenditure proposals
Support business continuity planning and disaster recovery initiatives
Assist systems teams with data analysis, visualisation, and front-end system optimisation
Act as a liaison between DC Operations and IT, translating operational needs into system requirements
Drive continuous improvement of DC layouts, processes, system setups, and performance metrics
Identify operational risks and opportunities to enhance efficiency and resilience

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

BEng Industrial Engineering Degree (required)

Experience

2–5 years’ relevant engineering experience
Exposure to FMCG and distribution centre operations
Programming experience will be an advantage

Skills

Strong understanding of distribution centre operations
Analytical and problem-solving capability
Project management and stakeholder coordination skills
Ability to interpret data and convert insights into operational improvements
Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical teams
