Job Overview

The Packaging Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation and maintenance of defined packaging equipment and related processes. The role ensures optimal production performance, quality, safety, and compliance while supporting continuous improvement within the packaging hall.


Key Purpose of the Role

β€’ Safely operate and maintain packaging equipment to achieve optimal efficiency and effectiveness
β€’ Ensure production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met


Key Roles and Responsibilities

β€’ Operate packaging equipment and manage associated processes and performance
β€’ Interpret and implement the production plan for the assigned shift
β€’ Operate both manual and automatic machines according to operational standards
β€’ Ensure process quality, output, and productivity targets are achieved
β€’ Perform administrative duties including tracking, monitoring, and reporting on processes
β€’ Manage PIMS and POMS systems and take corrective action on negative trends
β€’ Use OFRs in line with defined triggers
β€’ Contribute to AB reports as required
β€’ Ensure and maintain a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment


Key Attributes and Competencies

β€’ Demonstrated experience in driving commercial decisions within a packaging hall environment
β€’ Strong performance track record with a disciplined work ethic
β€’ Passion for quality, safety, and operational excellence
β€’ Sound understanding of relevant legislation, particularly health, safety, and labour legislation


Minimum Requirements

Education

β€’ Minimum Grade 12
β€’ Post-matric qualification such as N4, National Diploma, or equivalent
β€’ IOB Certificate will be an added advantage

Training

β€’ Minimum of 9 months on-the-job training
β€’ Completion of SKAP within 12 months

Experience

β€’ Experience within a Packaging FMCG manufacturing environment is essential

β€’ Quality assurance and productivity management
β€’ Data tracking, monitoring, and reporting
β€’ Problem-solving and corrective action implementation
β€’ Strong communication and teamwork skills
