๐ Job Purpose
Truworths is seeking a detail-driven Payroll Accountant to join its Human Resources division in Cape Town. This permanent, on-site role supports the Employee Benefits team and is responsible for managing payroll processes across multiple regions (RSA, African countries, and the UK). The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, leadership experience, and a proactive approach to payroll compliance, accuracy, and reporting.
๐ Key Responsibilities

Manage and oversee end-to-end payroll processing across multiple jurisdictions.

Reconcile payroll accounts, general ledger entries, and resolve discrepancies.

Ensure statutory compliance with payroll legislation (tax, benefits, deductions).

Maintain and verify accurate payroll records and submit reports to stakeholders.

Collaborate with the Employee Benefits team to ensure correct employee data.

Support internal and external audits related to payroll and accounting.

Implement efficient payroll procedures to boost processing accuracy and timeliness.

Prepare dividend statements and lead budget/forecast planning for RSA and African countries.

Supervise and mentor a small finance/payroll team to ensure quality outputs.
๐ Qualifications & Experience

Bachelorโs degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

4+ years’ experience, with at least:
-
3 years in accounting focused on payroll and accounts payable.

2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

Proficiency in Oracle payroll systems, Microsoft Excel, and related software.

Strong knowledge of South African payroll laws, tax regulations, and accounting principles.

Experience in producing detailed financial and payroll reports.
