Old Mutual South Africa is seeking an experienced Payroll and Tax Accountant to manage payroll operations and tax compliance for a large workforce of over 3,000 employees. This role ensures accurate payroll accounting, prepares statutory submissions to SARS, reconciles payroll accounts, and supports audits, maintaining financial integrity and compliance.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Key Responsibilities

Payroll & Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and submit EMP201 and EMP501 returns across multiple payrolls accurately and on time

  • Process PAYE, UIF, SDL, and SARS submissions timely

  • Maintain accurate SARS codes for employees and brokers

  • Manage IT88 administration and reconciliation

  • Administer employee deductions (e.g., company cars) and reconcile annually

Accounting & Reconciliations

  • Maintain general ledger accounts and process journals for accruals/variances

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and clear outstanding items

  • Reconcile payroll-related accounts, including share-based payment schemes (IFRS 2 compliance)

  • Support month-end and year-end reporting requirements

Audit & Reporting

  • Provide payroll tax reports for management and statutory purposes

  • Support internal and external audits

  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in payroll accounts and reconciliations

Process & Governance

  • Implement and maintain internal controls for payroll and tax processes

  • Liaise with HR, Finance, and Tax teams to resolve payroll tax queries

  • Ensure adherence to company policies, legislation, and payroll standards


๐ŸŽ“ Minimum Requirements

Education & Qualification

  • BCom Accounting, Tax, or related field (NQF Level 7)

  • National Diploma in Payroll/Accounting is advantageous

  • Professional qualifications (SAPA, CPP, SAIPA, SAIT, or CIMA) are a plus

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in payroll accounting and payroll tax administration

  • Experience managing large payrolls (3,000+ employees)

  • Knowledge of EMP201/EMP501 submissions, SARS reporting, and share-based payments

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax legislation and SARS compliance

  • Proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., Oracle) and MS Excel

  • Understanding of IFRS, tax accounting, and financial principles

Soft Skills
