Role Purpose

The Pharmacist Assistant’s primary responsibility is to assist the pharmacist in dispensing medication and managing pharmacy-related administrative duties. This role ensures smooth daily pharmacy operations while maintaining high standards of stock control, customer service, and front-shop management.

Key Responsibilities

• Dispensing Support: Assist the pharmacist by dispensing medication under strict supervision, ensuring accuracy and compliance with pharmacy laws and protocols.

• Stock Control: Manage stock levels, perform stock checks, and assist with ordering to maintain adequate pharmacy inventory.

• Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of prescriptions, sales, and stock movements. Ensure paperwork and regulatory documentation are up to date.

• Housekeeping: Ensure the pharmacy environment is clean, safe, and well-organized.

• Front Shop Service: Deliver friendly, efficient customer service, helping customers with queries, product information, and purchases.

• Compliance: Adhere to all pharmacy and retail policies, as well as health and safety standards.

Qualifications & Experience

• Essential:

  • Qualified as a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant.

  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council as a Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar pharmacy assistant role, preferably within a retail setting.

• Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong dispensing knowledge and familiarity with dispensing and ordering systems.

  • Excellent customer service skills with a patient-centered approach.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy pharmacy environment.

• Desirable:

  • Experience or understanding of retail/FMCG operations is an advantage.
