Job Overview
Mediclinic Worcester is seeking a Phlebotomist to join its healthcare team. The role focuses on collecting blood and other specimens from patients for diagnostic testing in accordance with clinical standards and safety regulations.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate sample collection, patient comfort, and adherence to infection control procedures. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented healthcare professional who is passionate about patient care and clinical accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex blood and specimen collection procedures
- Ensure all procedures comply with clinical standards and safety regulations
- Provide pre- and post-test counselling to patients and families
- Explain blood draw procedures and address patient concerns
- Identify and report risks to ensure patient safety
- Maintain strict infection prevention and control (IPC) standards
- Ensure a clean, sterile, and safe working environment
- Accurately record and process patient information and test data
- Manage and record all stock and consumables used
- Support administrative duties related to specimen collection and processing
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams within the unit
- Maintain high standards of patient care and professionalism
Qualifications
Education
- Registered Nurse OR Enrolled Nurse qualification OR
- Certificate in Phlebotomy Techniques
Experience
- 1β2 yearsβ experience after qualification in nursing or phlebotomy
Skills
- Strong phlebotomy and specimen collection skills
- Knowledge of clinical policies and regulatory requirements
- Patient assessment and communication skills
- Ability to provide patient counselling and reassurance
- Strong understanding of infection prevention and control (IPC)
- Risk identification and patient safety awareness
- Basic life support (BLS) certification
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary healthcare team
