About the Role

Nedbank is seeking a Platform Owner (DB2MVS Database) to take full ownership of its DB2MVS database platform and manage it within a broader IT operations ecosystem. This is a key technical leadership role requiring deep expertise in mainframe DB2 systems and a passion for optimizing and governing platform performance across a complex financial services environment.

Key Responsibilities

As a Platform Owner, you’ll play a vital role in leading the technical direction and performance of the DB2MVS database platform. Your duties will include:

• Full end-to-end ownership of the DB2MVS platform, including:

  • Platform lifecycle management and strategic planning

  • Governance, performance monitoring, and enhancement

  • Deployment of new services and system stability

• Cross-functional collaboration with infrastructure integrators to ensure platform designs and blueprints follow best practices

• Platform evaluation and integration into broader IT systems

• Reviewing and approving all platform-related architectural designs

• Establishing strong vendor relationships for long-term platform support and innovation

• Ensuring alignment with business strategy and values

• Contributing to continuous process improvement and agile ways of working

• Leading and mentoring technical teams and promoting a high-performance culture

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

• Education:

  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate

  • Preferred: IT-related Degree or Diploma

• Certifications:

  • DB2 Database Certification (Required)

  • Cloud and/or AI certification (Preferred)

  • Additional platform certifications (Preferred)

• Experience:

  • 15+ years in DB2MVS platform-specific database experience

  • 15+ years in IT operations, with focus on DB2MVS database support

  • 5–10 years of technical team leadership

Key Skills and Knowledge

• Deep expertise in DB2MVS platform architecture, administration, and optimization

• Knowledge of networking, SAN infrastructure, and performance tuning

• Experience with disaster recovery, risk and security standards, and IT governance

• Excellent decision-making, influencing, and partnership-building skills

• Strong leadership and ability to manage work independently
