Role Overview

πŸ› οΈ Purpose of Role:
Lead the Mechanical Engineering discipline as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing technical support, advanced analysis, and best-practice guidance across Anglo American operations.


Key Responsibilities

β€’ βš™οΈ Define and implement mechanical engineering best practices across mining equipment.
β€’ πŸ—οΈ Oversee heavy and mining equipment including crushers, screens, mills, thickeners, conveyors, HME, and related infrastructure.
β€’ πŸ’» Perform advanced engineering analysis (FEA, DEM, dynamic simulations, digital engineering).
β€’ πŸ”§ Conduct failure analysis, root cause analysis, and associated rectification for mechanical systems.
β€’ πŸ“„ Develop technical specifications and best practice principles for mechanical equipment.
β€’ 🀝 Collaborate with Operational, Engineering & Maintenance, and Project teams for design, delivery, operation, and maintenance.
β€’ 🌐 Engage with industry and OEMs to maintain high technical standards.
β€’ πŸ“ˆ Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement new technologies.
β€’ πŸ›‘οΈ Act as Functional Risk Authority and Technical Standard owner for Pressure Equipment and Lifting Operations.
β€’ πŸ” Conduct safety, technical, operational, and maintenance reviews (Level 2).
β€’ 🧰 Develop and manage asset strategies, condition monitoring, and integrity for critical mechanical systems.
β€’ πŸ‘· Mentor young mechanical engineers and promote technical growth.


Qualifications and Experience

πŸŽ“ Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Professional Engineering Registration (ECSA, CREA, CIP, IENG, or CIC).

  • Extensive practical experience in complex mechanical engineering environments.

πŸŽ“ Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctoral degree).

  • Proven record in safety-focused mechanical design, operations, and maintenance.

πŸ’Ό Technical Knowledge & Skills:

  • Heavy and mining equipment expertise.

  • Advanced engineering analysis: FEA, DEM, dynamic simulations.

  • Failure and root cause analysis for mechanical systems.

  • Technical specification development and implementation.

  • Experience in operational support, asset management, and project execution.

  • Project management experience across small and large-scale engineering projects.

  • Understanding of national and international standards and regulatory compliance.
