Job Overview 🔧

Sasol is looking for a Process Engineer I to join the Sasolburg & Natref Operations team. This role will primarily support Site Logistics, Tank Farm areas, and Market and Process Integration (MPI). You will be responsible for improving production volumes, ensuring quality and efficiency, and supporting plant sustainability efforts in compliance with environmental standards.

As a Process Engineer, you will troubleshoot and monitor operations, develop improvement initiatives, and ensure the performance of plant assets while working towards the optimization of Sasol’s operational value chains.

Key Responsibilities 🛠️

In your role as Process Engineer I, you will:

• Optimize Equipment Operations 🔧:

  • Define the optimum operating window (OWAP) for Tank Farm equipment.
  • Monitor and enhance plant performance in terms of availability, quality, and efficiency.
  • Translate loss accounting into actionable improvement plans.

• Technical Support & Troubleshooting ⚙️:

  • Proactively identify and resolve technical issues within equipment and unit operations.
  • Ensure process integrity during plant inspections and recommend improvements during shutdowns.

• Support Shutdowns & Modifications 🛠️:

  • Assist in shutdowns with value chain integration and process equipment integrity.
  • Implement modifications to improve operations, adhering to established engineering principles and policies.

• Volume Protection Plan (VPP) 📊:

  • Ensure effective monitoring of the VPP to protect production volumes.
  • Analyze and provide technical input to production planning, ensuring alignment with VPP goals.

• Process Engineering Fundamentals 💡:

  • Maintain the relevance of process engineering tools and assist in optimizing Sasolburg operations’ value chains and utilities distribution.
  • Provide inputs to the technical track for small to medium-sized projects (Tier 3-5).

• Collaborate Across Teams 🤝:

  • Work closely with operations, engineering, project management, and other teams to advance business objectives.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis to resolve process-related issues.

• Process Safety Management 🛡️:

  • Contribute to process safety management by offering inputs to MHI (Major Hazard Installation), PHA (Process Hazard Analysis), and other safety assessments.

Qualifications & Experience 🎓

Essential Education:

• BSc Chemical Engineering or BEng (Chemical)

Required Experience:

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a process engineering role or related field.
• Experience working in an FMCG, chemical, or energy sector is advantageous.
