Role Overview 🛠️
As a Process Engineer I at Sasol, you will provide engineering support for the Site Logistics and Tank Farm areas. You will play a key role in ensuring production volumes are optimized, plant performance is efficient, and quality standards are met. In addition, you will be instrumental in monitoring plant operations, troubleshooting technical issues, and implementing improvement initiatives to meet sustainability goals and environmental compliance.
This role is perfect for a BSc. Chemical Engineer or BEng (Chem) graduate with at least 3 years of experience in process engineering. You will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic team while enhancing the overall performance of Sasol’s production facilities.
Key Responsibilities 📋
- Operating Window & Performance Monitoring: Define and optimize the operating window for Tank Farm equipment, ensuring the plant meets availability, quality, and efficiency targets.
- Troubleshooting: Proactively identify technical issues with equipment and unit operations, resolving them to ensure smooth production flow.
- Shutdown Support: Assist during shutdowns by ensuring integration with the value chain and addressing process equipment integrity.
- Volume Protection: Monitor the Volume Protection Plan (VPP), ensuring all processes adhere to set targets and minimize risk deviations.
- Process Improvement: Continuously identify improvement opportunities, leveraging industry best practices for optimal process performance.
- Project Support: Provide process-related inputs for small to medium-sized projects, ensuring alignment with engineering principles and business goals.
- Safety Management: Support the implementation of process safety management elements, contributing to a safe work environment by engaging in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and process safety reviews.
Qualifications & Skills 🎓
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (BSc. Chem or BEng Chem).
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years in process engineering, with a focus on production optimization, troubleshooting, and process improvement.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of process management, risk analysis, and process safety management tools.
- Collaboration: Strong team collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently when necessary.
- Compliance & Safety: Understanding of compliance management, safety regulations, and ability to support process safety management within the plant.
- Decision Making: Excellent judgment in identifying process issues and making sound, timely decisions to enhance operational performance.
