💼 About the Role

SMEC is seeking a Professional Bridge Engineer – Structures to join their team in either Cape Town or Pretoria. The role is ideal for an experienced civil/structural engineer passionate about bridges, multidisciplinary project delivery, and team mentorship. You’ll support Functional and Section Managers while playing a key role in technical delivery, client engagement, and business development.

🔧 Key Responsibilities

• Deliver professional structural engineering services across multiple projects

• Draft and review technical reports, designs, and presentations

• Supervise engineers and ensure QA throughout project lifecycle

• Contribute to budgeting, resource planning, and team allocation

• Assess contractor claims and prepare recommendations

• Represent SMEC at technical conferences and client presentations

• Manage sub-consultants, variation orders, and invoicing processes

• Support business development and marketing strategies

• Lead submissions for EOIs, RFQs, and large-scale proposals

• Mentor graduates and junior team members

📘 Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

• Minimum of 6 years’ relevant post-grad experience

• Registered or eligible for registration with ECSA

• Strong technical and design report writing skills

• Experience in managing project financials and team deliverables

💡 Preferred Qualifications

• Niche technical expertise in structural/bridge design software

• Proven leadership in multidisciplinary teams

• Familiarity with commercial project management and forecasting

• Ability to manage project budgets and deadlines

• Effective communication with clients, consultants, and contractors
